A financial solution to green

What should we do to make green energy available to everyone?  Make it easy and affordable.

Think about actually saving money on your energy bills and being earth friendly.

At Chicago Energy Fund, we make green technologies affordable.  We facilitate the installation of solar photovoltaic units, geothermal heating/cooling systems, and wind power.

Would this make sense for me?

If you currently pay $150 or more a month in gas and electric utilities, we could install new green systems in your home so that you were paying the same amount, or even less, saving you money.

So, my monthly payments stay the same or get smaller, but the money gets reallocated?

Yes, the idea behind Chicago Energy Fund is that your monthly payments stay the same or get less. Instead of paying the utility companies like you do now, you would pay for a loan on your new green energy systems. The savings come from the new equipment in your home.  These new systems will drastically cut your energy payments.

Why don't I just put the equipment myself?

Very few people have the money to put in a geothermal or solar electric system up front. They can cost upwards of $15,000. The idea here is to spread these payments out so that they are monthly, not just a huge lump sum up front.

So maybe I would not even pay the gas or electric utility?

Yes, wouldn't it sound good to eliminate your Peoples Gas bill, or have a ComEd meter that can run backwards so they would pay you for electricity?

Is this part of the solution to our energy and environmental problems?

Yes, the solution to our energy and environmental problems is to rethink our economic models, to make it affordable to go green. If you could pay the same or even less every month – who would not want to do that? When everyone uses these products, we will have the energy we want, without the costs and the polution.

How do I save money on my electric bill?

Easy, with your new energy producing solar powered equipment, you supply energy to the power grid during the day, and pull energy from the grid in the evening.  ComEd will give you a meter that can run both forwards and backwards. If you end up producing more electricity than you use, they will pay you.

Why would I want to do this?

You could save money on your monthly bills and put a green system into your home. As a homeowner, your monthly budget should stay the same or decrease.  The payment on the loan to Chicago Energy Fund for new green equipment should be offset by the reduction or elimination of payments on your gas and/or electric bill.

What about my gas bill?

If you use a geothermal heating system in your house, you will no longer need to use gas for heat. You might still pay the gas company for cooking gas, but not for heat. Geothermal systems use loops of water that run underground to get to an even temperature of about 55 degrees.  The wonderful thing about this loop is that it is much more efficient to warm 55 degree water and blow air over it, or run it through your radiators, than it is to simply heat up air or water with gas.
